I grew up in Liverpool, in a working-class community. Like many theatre writers from a similar background, my habit began with annual trips to the bedazzling world of British panto. I studied classics at university, where I fell in love with making theatre and saw my first play produced, an adaptation of THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY.

My writing ranges from original stories like THE MAY QUEEN (my Liverpool debut) to plays for young people (CLOUDCUCKOOLAND), from translations of classic drama (Brecht, Euripides) to adaptations of well-loved novels (THE GREAT GATSBY, WHITE TEETH).
